What is the issue?

The issue is that on Friday there was a huge train crash in Cumbria, England. Accident investigators have found that parts of the rails and called points (the part of the track where the tracks seperate and the train goes either left of right) were missing. This was what caused the crash. The crash killed one woman and injured many.

Who is involved?

The people involved are:

  1. Network Rail (the train company)

  2. Accident investigators
  3. Survivors

Who is affected and how?

The people affected are the injured ones  because they may have gotten paraliyzed so they can no longer move and will not be able to work. The other injured would also be affected because they will not be able to work for a while. Also the family members of the injured and the one woman that got killed, because their family member has been badly injured and has lost their loved one. The Network Rail company is also affected because they might loose customers due to crash, and the customers would be scared to go on the train. The travelers that use the train as transportation are also affected because now they have to use a car, bus, etc. The passengers would also be affected because when the train is fixed they might be too scared to use the train again. The people that check the tracks and that are responsible for the tracks are also affected because they might of got fired, warned, punished, or even had to go to jail. Since they were responsible for this incident. They should have had a daily check to make sure everything was in order. If they had found out sooner about the misssing parts they could stop the train. The train driver also might be affected because he might be too scared to drive the train again and would have to find a new occupation. Other train companies near that area might also be affected because they might be scared that the trains that they are using also has problems.

What would you do if you were directly involved?

If I was directly involved I would make or enforce rules for the train companies around the world, this would make them safer. The rules that I would make or enforce would be that every day (before the trains start) people responsible for the tracks would have to check that everything is in order and that there is nothing broken or missing. If there was a problem, they could not start the train until everthing was fixed. If all the tracks were safe and was safe to use, they could start the train. They should also have videocameras above the tracks to moniter them. If they found something wrong they would stop all the trains. After making these rules I put an article in the newspaper talking about these rules so that passengers on trains would feel more safer.

Reflection Number 2

What would you change about the final product (the wiki you created) if you were to do the assignment again?

If I were to do the assignment again, on the final product, I would have put links to other pages on all the pages. For example, on the kings page I would make a link saying ” Go back to main page”. We had a few of those on our wiki but not for all of the pages. It would have looked more proffesional if all the pages had links like that. Also what I would have changed would be to have more pictures on the pages. This would have been better because then our audience could really understand what we are trying to explain. For example, on our section clothing, we described how it looked like. Like, the Boubou clothing has long pants that go down to your ankles…etc. If we had a picture our audience would see how this clothing looks like. Another thing that I would change on our wiki would be, on some pages to add a little more information. On some pages like Climate and Vegetation there isn’t that much information. I think if we had more time we could do a little more research so that each of our pages are nice andd thorough.

Look at some of the other wikis from any class and find a few that you think are done exceptionally well. Tell me the name of the empire and the block, and then explain what you like about their wiki.

Kongo Kingdom-Block E

I liked how on their main page they used cooltext for their different categories. They even got them to link too! That was really cool! Also, I really liked  the backround information page. I really like how first they just told you how the kindom started, and basically just the base of the empire. That was really good beause maybe their audience didn’t even know about the Kongo kingdom! They could just go to that page and learn just the basic things about the empire, and then get into detail. On the environment page, I liked how under agriculture, they listed all their crops. Then they linked the wordds to pictures of how the crop looked like. This was really good because maybe some people don’t know how the crop looks like.

The Zimbabwe Kingdom-Block E

This group did a great job on getting information. I noticed that each page was extremely thourough. They had information on all kinds of things! Like, attidude, wild life, etc. They got nearly every category on the assignment sheet!I really liked how they had so much information because its noyt really just about the pictures and presentation, it’s mainly about the information.

Swahili Trading States-Block E

I liked how this group had a lot of pictures on their wiki it really made clearer to understand what they were explaining.

Ancient Mali-Block H

I liked how on the Human page they made a big category on entertainment. It was really interesting to know all these things that this Empire did. It was nice to know what they did in their free time back then. I liked how they explained on the Environment page, what they ate and how they got the food. I also really like how this group made a timeline.

Ancient African Wiki Reflection

  1. What did you learn from this task? What I learned from this task was information on the Mali Empire. I learned many different cultures and traditions. I also learned many facts that were nice to know, like about architecture and the kings. These were really interesting facts to me. If someone asked me if I new anything about ancient africa, I would talk about the different empires and a lot of information about the Mali Empire (because that is my empire). I would also talk about the trading systems and the trade routes. I also learned a lot about evaluating websites and handy tips to use while researchig on google. Based on the wiki I didn’t really learn anything because I had already done about 3 wikis. This was good though because I had experience so it was easy for me to work on it.
  2. Did you find this difficult or easy? Why? I found this quite easy because I had already done many wikis before so I had a lot of experience. The only thing that I had a little trouble with was I had problems saving, I had to take risks because I did not know if the information was saved or not.
  3. What would you change about the process you went through to complete the wiki if you were to do the assignment again? What I would change about the process I went through to complete the wiki if I were to do the assignment again would be to focus more on the wiki. I was too concentrated on the iMovie for the main page that I didn’t have time to work on the wiki.

1. How are your two events connected?

The two events are connected because thay are both based on global warming. Both articles describe that greenhouse have an effect on global warming, it is causing rising temperature. These articles also explain how different countries are trying to save our planet. In Bea’s article it describes how France called 46 different countries to discuss and make new rules to prevent global warming. In my article it says that in the UK students are to be taught how to save energy and recycle. Also it says that France turned of the lights of the Eiffel Tower for 15 minutes to save energy.

2. What did you find interesting about this topic?

What I found interesting about this topic was that I want to save our planet, so it was interesting to hear what the world was doing to help it. Ofcourse I want to be aware of what is happening to our world so I can know what I can do to help.

3. What did you like about the initial blog posting?

What I like about the initial blog posting was that when she had to describe whao was affected and how, she looked for everyone that could be affected. She also described how they could be affected. What was also good about the initial blog posting was that I found no spelling or grammer mistakes. She also explained her information really well because it was all in her own words.
