Q #1 Think about the presentations and reflect on the projects your classmates presented and the information you listened to. Explain with details and specific information what you learned, what you found interesting, surprising, or shocking about the presentations you heard in class.

A First of all, I learned many things from each presentation, but individually, there was something either interesting , suprising, or shocking about the presentations I heard. I learned from the human rights presentation that in some countries women aren’t even allowed to drive! This was one suprising fact! From the Child Labour presentation I learned that families would just sell their children , so that they could work. No matter what age! This was very sad. Even if they tried to run away the “bosses” would catch them and beat or rape them! They worked long and hard, but still some of them would get a bit of money, and some nothing…From the drug abuse presentation I learned that now there are more drugs that are made chemically than naturally from the plant. Also the presenters said that a young man living in the city would be more likely to take drugs than a hard working lady. I also learned what drugs do to you, it was quite interesting but still shocking and horrible. There was also a topic on Children’s Rights, there I learned that children in the streets would go to jail, even if innocent, there the conditions were UNDESCRIBABLE! In addition to the conditions of the actual jail, they would get beaten and forced to admit that they were guilty even though most of them were innocent. Also shockingly when the children were living on the streets people would give them drugs! As you read, you could tell that I was mostly shocked about the information presented.

Q#2 What would you change to improve your project/presentation if you were to do the assignment again?

To improve my project I would have maybe asked for helpp on one problem that we had while making the project. The problem was that the clips would go automatically and sometimes too fast that you would not have enough time to read all of the text. We should have had that problem solved. To improve our presentation I think that we should have rehearsed more. Most of the time we were basically reading from our paper. Sometimes it would take a while to realize it was our turn or know which clip to say. Though we had our faults I didn’t think that our presentation/project was that bad.

Q The end of the Cold War changed the purpose of the U.N.’s original mission to prevent another world war. Do you agree or disagree with the statement and why?

A I disagree with this statement because there will always be a threat of another world war. There have grown to be many purposes of the U.N. The U.N. is an organization that needs to work with current issues. The cold war is over and the UN’s mission still stands! The U.N. has found many other topics to work on since it started, such as: human rights, economic development, de-colonization, health, food production, education, refugees, trade, and most importantly peacekeeping. By assisting and helping people and nations in these matters it will assist in preventing another world war. Though they failed on preventing many wars after the cold war, the U.N. should carry on. Some achievements of the U.N. are:

• The United Nations has played a role in bringing independence to countries that are now member of the U.N.

• UN agencies have worked to make safe drinking water available to 1.3 billion people in rural areas during the last decade, and much more.

These achievements show that the U.N. should still be a meeting place for nations to discuss and solve issues between them and speak about human needs. The United Nations should continue to work and make progress for humans step even though the cold war was over. Let’s hope that that there will be progress and that people of the earth will live in peace and harmony because of the U.N.’s achievements.

How are your two events connected?

Our two events are connected because Mahera’s event was abut how a volcano in Ecuador is very active and peoples homes are in great danger. My event was from 2006 in Ecudor where there had already been a volcano eruption, and experts were worried that the volcano might erupt again. Which now happens to be probably right. These events are connected because they both are about volcano Tungurahua in Ecuador. Mine was about how it was the 14th time it had erupted and experts found out that maybe it would erupt again. Mahera’swas about how the same volcano was highly active again.

What did you find interesting about this topic?

What I found interesting about this topic was that a volcano could just have an eruption after one was already held. Before I read this article I just thought a volcano could have one eruption and that then the volcano would just die out and have no more lava. I turned out to be wrong though because volvano Tungurahua had already erupted 14 times! It was interesting to learn something new about volcanoes.

What did you like about the initial blog posting?

What I liked about the initial blog posting was that she linked words to their definitions so that whoever was reading her blog would not be confused with any word. What I really like was what she would do if she was direectly involved. She thought of all the ways that she could help these people. All of her solutions were very critical. I even wish that she was directly involved! She would be really good! Also for who was affected and how, she thought of every little thing that could affect the people near the volcano.

A: During the presentations in class I learned about how just 1 person can impact something so big. I also learned that people had lots of determination, like Hatshepsut. She even dressed up as a man just to be pharoah! The egyptianshad many gods that they depended on throughout their lives. What I found interesting was how competitive the pharoah’s were! They all wanted to be more important than the other, building a greater and grander pyramid, conquyering more land. Aren’t all the pharoah’s related! I wouldn’t like to have a brother or father like that!I felt that it was very interesting to watch the presentation expressing the attitudes of the important Egyptians. Some were serious, some were goofy. and the others were also very interesting. Mostly I liked how everyones presentation was different.

Q: What would you change to improve your speech/presentation if you were to do the assignment again? What would you change to improve your speech/presentation if you were to do the assignment again?

A: If I were to do my presentation again, I would practice saying my speech more. When it was my turn to present, I got really nervous and I started too repeat some of mylines. I would practice presenting in front of a group of people first so that when I would have to present, I wouldnt be scared in front of the class.

Bastet

Opening: Hey fellow Egyptian’s I’m Bastet your cat godess!

Are you scared are you frightened, are you sad or unhappy, come to me and I shall protect you and make you happy. Hear me purr….. I am very special for I represent the cat, the animal that is so sacred in Egypt. I am very dependant. I make an impact to many people, I show significance, I am I am Bastet.

I am goddess I am protectress, I spread joy when it lacks. When the sun rises and the sun sets I accompany Ra across the hemispheres on his boat. Though I have the head of a cat and the body of the woman, at night Ra loses his sight. This is where my role comes in. I magically turn into a cat and get excellent sight. I look out for Ra’s enemy, Apep the evil serpent. Arrrgghh he is so annoying! Anyway, if he comes I slay that stinkin snake! I am daughter of Ra, wife of Ptah, and mother of Mihos. I am goddess of pleasure, music, dancing, and joy. I protect women, children, and domestic cats. I also work with Ra’s angry eye. He’s always so grumpy! People started honoring me in the 2nd Dynasty in Northern Egypt. My role slays the anger and the bad until everything is just right.

I represent a cat, a cat oh so sacred. I am very important because I protect Ra from Apep when he lacks strength. Cats were extremely special to the Egyptians (and gods like me!) So I am very lucky to be representing such a special animal. People turn to me for protection and blessing. If I were gone the sun would not shine, danger and boredom would sicken the world.

I change the world, I help the world, but how? I protect Ra from the evil serpent at night so that the sun can rise and brighten our days. I have my own city called Bubastis because of my significance. On October 31st my feast day celebration is held, it is a happy time for everyone to thank me for giving them joy. I have a famous temple at Bubastis, the temple is full of cats carried in baskets and ritually fed. They give me lots of offerings, including lots of small cat sculptures, sweet liquids and foodstuffs, mint, catnip (which is part of the mint family that is very cat attractive, so it’s one of my favorites!), honey, raw meat, perfumes, ointments, and NEVER cats because if you kill a cat you have the punishment of death. Most of all I teach people to not waste their energy by taking things too seriously and to treat ourselves with happiness and luxury in your lives (you should take this advice too!). I hope that I impacted the world in many different ways.

As I am cat, I am special. As I am special I give impact. I am Bastet. People want me, people need me for happiness and protection. I will never leave you I am in your arms, as I drift away and carry your soul I will remain your protectress, goddess, and your pet…..

      1. What is the issue?

The issue is that the presidential election in France has officially started on Monday the 9th of April 2007. In this election there is a women candidate, called Ségolène Royal. France has never had a female president before.

Who is involved?

The people involved in this issue are……

Ségolène Royal

French voters

Women in the world

Everyone in the world

Her family

Her party

Her friends

Who is affected and how?

The people affected are mostly the French citizens because possibly she can be the first female president of France. She might be better than male presidents or worse. Ségolène Royal is affected because if she wins the election and becomes a good president, people will think that maybe more presidents should be women. If she does not do so well, people will think that women should not be presidents. This also affects future female candidates. Women in the world are also affected because when they see that she is doing well in the election, it will give them more motivation. They will believe women will become more important. Everyone in the world is affected because this shows that women can become president so they might change their decision on who to vote for in future elections. France is a very important country in the world so she will have a lot of important decisions to make that will affect many people in the world. Her family is affected because she will be busier and won’t have much time to spend with her family. Her friends won’t be able to see her as much if she becomes president.

What would you do if you were directly involved?

If I were directly involved I would vote for Ségolène Royal because I believe that women have the same intelligence as men and there are not enough female presidents in the world. I would also make signs and posters that will make people vote for her.

What is the issue?

The issue is that on Friday there was a huge train crash in Cumbria, England. Accident investigators have found that parts of the rails and called points (the part of the track where the tracks seperate and the train goes either left of right) were missing. This was what caused the crash. The crash killed one woman and injured many.

Who is involved?

The people involved are:

Network Rail (the train company)

Accident investigators

Survivors

Who is affected and how?

The people affected are the injured ones because they may have gotten paraliyzed so they can no longer move and will not be able to work. The other injured would also be affected because they will not be able to work for a while. Also the family members of the injured and the one woman that got killed, because their family member has been badly injured and has lost their loved one. The Network Rail company is also affected because they might loose customers due to crash, and the customers would be scared to go on the train. The travelers that use the train as transportation are also affected because now they have to use a car, bus, etc. The passengers would also be affected because when the train is fixed they might be too scared to use the train again. The people that check the tracks and that are responsible for the tracks are also affected because they might of got fired, warned, punished, or even had to go to jail. Since they were responsible for this incident. They should have had a daily check to make sure everything was in order. If they had found out sooner about the misssing parts they could stop the train. The train driver also might be affected because he might be too scared to drive the train again and would have to find a new occupation. Other train companies near that area might also be affected because they might be scared that the trains that they are using also has problems.

What would you do if you were directly involved?

If I was directly involved I would make or enforce rules for the train companies around the world, this would make them safer. The rules that I would make or enforce would be that every day (before the trains start) people responsible for the tracks would have to check that everything is in order and that there is nothing broken or missing. If there was a problem, they could not start the train until everthing was fixed. If all the tracks were safe and was safe to use, they could start the train. They should also have videocameras above the tracks to moniter them. If they found something wrong they would stop all the trains. After making these rules I put an article in the newspaper talking about these rules so that passengers on trains would feel more safer.

What would you change about the final product (the wiki you created) if you were to do the assignment again?

If I were to do the assignment again, on the final product, I would have put links to other pages on all the pages. For example, on the kings page I would make a link saying ” Go back to main page”. We had a few of those on our wiki but not for all of the pages. It would have looked more proffesional if all the pages had links like that. Also what I would have changed would be to have more pictures on the pages. This would have been better because then our audience could really understand what we are trying to explain. For example, on our section clothing, we described how it looked like. Like, the Boubou clothing has long pants that go down to your ankles…etc. If we had a picture our audience would see how this clothing looks like. Another thing that I would change on our wiki would be, on some pages to add a little more information. On some pages like Climate and Vegetation there isn’t that much information. I think if we had more time we could do a little more research so that each of our pages are nice andd thorough.

Look at some of the other wikis from any class and find a few that you think are done exceptionally well. Tell me the name of the empire and the block, and then explain what you like about their wiki.

Kongo Kingdom-Block E

I liked how on their main page they used cooltext for their different categories. They even got them to link too! That was really cool! Also, I really liked the backround information page. I really like how first they just told you how the kindom started, and basically just the base of the empire. That was really good beause maybe their audience didn’t even know about the Kongo kingdom! They could just go to that page and learn just the basic things about the empire, and then get into detail. On the environment page, I liked how under agriculture, they listed all their crops. Then they linked the wordds to pictures of how the crop looked like. This was really good because maybe some people don’t know how the crop looks like.

The Zimbabwe Kingdom-Block E

This group did a great job on getting information. I noticed that each page was extremely thourough. They had information on all kinds of things! Like, attidude, wild life, etc. They got nearly every category on the assignment sheet!I really liked how they had so much information because its noyt really just about the pictures and presentation, it’s mainly about the information.

Swahili Trading States-Block E

I liked how this group had a lot of pictures on their wiki it really made clearer to understand what they were explaining.

Ancient Mali-Block H

I liked how on the Human page they made a big category on entertainment. It was really interesting to know all these things that this Empire did. It was nice to know what they did in their free time back then. I liked how they explained on the Environment page, what they ate and how they got the food. I also really like how this group made a timeline.

What did you learn from this task? What I learned from this task was information on the Mali Empire. I learned many different cultures and traditions. I also learned many facts that were nice to know, like about architecture and the kings. These were really interesting facts to me. If someone asked me if I new anything about ancient africa, I would talk about the different empires and a lot of information about the Mali Empire (because that is my empire). I would also talk about the trading systems and the trade routes. I also learned a lot about evaluating websites and handy tips to use while researchig on google. Based on the wiki I didn’t really learn anything because I had already done about 3 wikis. This was good though because I had experience so it was easy for me to work on it.

Did you find this difficult or easy? Why? I found this quite easy because I had already done many wikis before so I had a lot of experience. The only thing that I had a little trouble with was I had problems saving, I had to take risks because I did not know if the information was saved or not.

What would you change about the process you went through to complete the wiki if you were to do the assignment again? What I would change about the process I went through to complete the wiki if I were to do the assignment again would be to focus more on the wiki. I was too concentrated on the iMovie for the main page that I didn’t have time to work on the wiki.
